Tragedy, Yes
Yes, the VT shootings were tragic. Yes, it raises issues that need to be debated by our country.
But look at how our entire country reacted to the death of just 32 people. If it happened in Iraq, it would be considered a good day. Iraq has 1/10 the population of the United States thus the equivalent number of people dying in United States vs. Iraq is ten-fold.
See the people weeping and gnashing their teeth. The youth line up for psycological counseling while family and friends mourn. Our President gives a speech while the media focuses like a laser on every single detail surrounding the incident. 32 people dead, murdered by gun shot, and Our Nation almost comes unglued.
Now imagine Iraq. In Iraq the average is about 80 people dying every single day, some from bombs, others from bullets to the head, and still others are tortured to death. 80 people dying in Iraq would be equivalent to 800 people dying in the United States on a population basis.
Now imagine Our Country losing 800 Americans every single day for 4 years and you might be able to comprehend the horror and the tragedy Iraqis are experiencing.
Baghdad Bombings Leave at Least 127 Dead

BAGHDAD, April 18 -- A string of bombings killed at least 127 people across Baghdad Wednesday, as bloodshed spiked two months into a U.S.-led crackdown meant to placate the Iraqi capital.
The carnage underscored the profound insecurity that continues to plague the nation, where additional American soldiers are being deployed in an attempt to curb sectarian violence.
The attacks came as Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki pledged to have Iraqi troops assume full security control of the nation's 18 provinces by the end of the year, news services reported.
The deadliest attack occurred this afternoon when a car bomb ripped through the al-Sadriya market in a predominantly Shiite area of central Baghdad and killed at least 82 people, police said. The same market was the site of a Feb. 3 bombing that killed more than 125 people, the gravest single bombing since the war in Iraq began.
Earlier, a suicide bomber slammed into a police checkpoint in the vast Shiite enclave of Sadr City, killing at least 30, police said. Other bombings, near a hospital in the central Baghdad area of Karrada and in a minibus in the northwest area of Risafi, killed at least 15, police said.

I know. I am not staying up with the news, because of the constant barrage of detailed information on the Virginia shooting. This news should be a top headline and it should say also that it is the U.S. who are the gunmen. I am sooo very sorry that our military is put in this position. Angry, too. Angry at Bush and his whole gang of thugs.

Oh, you haven't heard the best of it yet... one of the wingnut regulars over at blogs for bush just posted:
"Absolutley, but why expend resources for one man [Usama Bin Laden], when there's a whole bunch just like him in Iraq?"
Unbelievable - he's jumped here from UBL not needing to be brought to justice because it's inconvenient to divert resources from Iraq, through "Oh, let's not bother" to painting a picture that anyone with an RPG or IED in Iraq now has the potential to cause another 9/11...
My original question about why if Mr Maliki, the prime minister of Iraq, says Iraqi forces will be in position to take over security by 01 Jan 2008 remains unanswered, the wingnuts don't want to go near it, and I'm even being criticised now for sticking to the question...
I really do wish that ANYONE who promotes the Iraq war should be rounded up and sent to fight it... All these sick wingnuts who just want to chant bush-worshipping mantras and ignore the real issues dishonor the victims of 9/11, and give Americans a bad name all over the world.
Soldiers die over there, and they try to ignore the fact, to claim that things aren't as bad as the "liberal media" would like to suggest... B4B has even taking to quoting the official occupation websites press releases as if they were news stories!
Virginia was indeed shocking, and a very sad case... but Polishifter is right, the body count doesn't compare to the DAILY body count in Iraq and we MUST NOT FORGET that.

I don't even know what to say anymore. It's sickening.

'A string of bombings killed at least 127 people across Baghdad Wednesday, as bloodshed spiked two months into a U.S.-led crackdown meant to placate the Iraqi capital.'
as the previous post said--that's the equivalent of one thousand two hundred seventy people in the US.
this is what the 'crack-down surge' has brought forth.
gee, thanks, BushCo.
