Wow.
Today was the first day in weeks that I flipped on MSNBC and there wasn't a Republican Strategist or Black Minister telling me how the Jeremiah Wright controversy was going to sink Obama's campaign.
The news anchors (gasp) actually reported...get this... NEWS!
Over 100,000 dead in Myanmar, bad weather on the east coast, tornados, and a volcano erupting in Chile. I mean, REAL news. The whole tone of the media nearly overnight took on a news tone as opposed to an opinionated tone.
Of course, Jenna's wedding is overshadowing any Iraq news or new developments in the Don Siegelman case. Baby steps I guess. It's amazing to me how fast nearly the entire media flipped. They went from acting like Hillary had a real chance at winning the nomination (when mathematically it's been nearly impossible for months) to proclaiming Obama the apparent nominee.
What I want to know is who has the power to flip that switch in the corporate media?
All accounts point to Tim Russert being the first one to declare that the democratic primary race is over on tuesday night. From there others in the media followed his lead. Is Russert really that powerful? His one sentence literally flipped the media storyline away from Jeremiah Wright and toward Obama being the nominee.
Oh, and here is some more NEWS:
Cindy McCain says she'll never release her tax returns
WASHINGTON - Cindy McCain says she will never make her tax returns public even if her husband wins the White House and she becomes the first lady.
"You know, my husband and I have been married 28 years and we have filed separate tax returns for 28 years. This is a privacy issue. My husband is the candidate," Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting John McCain, said in an interview aired on NBC's "Today" on Thursday.
Asked if she would release her tax returns if she was first lady, Cindy McCain said: "No." More Here

If McCain was the democratic nominee his campaign would be history but the friggen Republicans seem to be able to tell you to go to hell and get away with it.
It was amazing how quickly Wright died after Obama's wins. I posted on it but you are hearing that Hillary would accept Veep and McCain and the Repugs are now focusing on the presumptive nominee Obama. that obnoxious Limbaugh!
What do you think A Democratic Unity Ticket with Obama as president and Hillary as vice president would satisfy party factions, lower the temperature, lead to a landslide victory in November. Obama would bring to the marriage the young, the black, and the liberal suburbanites. Hillary would attract her proven constituency of older voters, women, whites, workers and Hispanics.
She would supply the "experience" and kill that issue for Repugs! On to victory. Yesterday I heard that Hillary wants Veep. I don't know if Obama can handle her and Bill but that would work for me.

Hi Jim
Hillary can bring the old and the older women...I don't buy that the working class whites and hispanics won't vote for Obama. There may be some percentage that won't but to argue that all those who voted for Hillary won't vote for Obama in November is absurd.
Personally I don't want to see her on the ticket but if that is what the Obama camp decides then so be it.
I don't see it though. I see Hillary doing everything she can to destroy the democratic party AND Obama, just so she can run again in 2012.
Reality is that if Hillary cared about anything more than just Hillary she would have bowed out and thrown her support behind Obama

If Hillary Clinton is unable to destroy Obama and keep him from getting the Democratic nomination, I wouldn't be surprised if she continues to work at it behind the scenes whether or not he wins the presidency. Then, I think it could be her versus Jeb Bush in 2012.
I know, that's pretty damned pessimistic, but unless Obama can pull off the nomination, win the presidency and be a "teflon president", I think we could see a race between Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush in 2012.
When will the Bush twins and Chelsea Clinton be old enough to run for president? Not for another 20+ years, right? 8-)

Thanks for making me vomit on the whole Jeb thing, snave. ;-) I think if Obama gets in, no matter how good or bad he does, enough won't get fixed in four years - because it's nigh impossible - but that won't be good enough for the media. "See, we gave your Dem a shot and he blew it!" So, back to a daddy figure to save the day. Jeb is the Smart Shrub!
