I Will Never Get Over It

I hear a lot of people on both sides say that we all need to ‘just get over it’ and move on. I will never get over it. What we have witnessed over the past 7 years is the near destruction of the United States by internal forces. The Bush/Cheney regime coupled with 6 years of Republican dominance in Congress has fiscally obliterated the United States. Their policies are nothing short of Voodoo Economics yet here they all are again trying to push the same mantra on us: “keep corporate taxes low, Democrats will raise yer taxes…”

Well for 7 years we have had ‘low corporate taxes’ and what benefit have the American People enjoyed? What benefit are the borrow and spend policies of the Republicans? The only people it benefits are the crony corporations that fund the campaigns of those said Republicans.

When Bush/Cheney entered office and the Republicans dominated Congress they inherited a budget surplus. After their first year in office the U.S. was pushed into massive deficit spending.

When Bush/Cheney entered office and the Republicans dominated Congress oil was $14 a barrel. Now it’s $138 a barrel.

When Bush/Cheney entered office and the Republicans dominated Congress gas was $1.48 a gallon. Now it’s $4.50 a gallon.

When Bush/Cheney entered office and the Republicans dominated Congress the national debt was $5 trillion. Now it’s $9 trillion.

Before Bush/Cheney entered office and the Republicans dominated Congress we referred to America as the United States, or the U.S. or America. Now it’s called ‘The Homeland’.

Under the Bush/Cheney regime we saw the passage of such insidious legislation such as ‘The Patriot Act’ which was anything but patriotic. We still have torture being committed in the name of the United States. The Constitution has been violated more times than a hooker at a bachelor party.

We STILL don’t know who is being spied on and Congress refuses to hold the telecom’s accountable let alone the Bush/Cheney regime. Your emails can be read, your phones tapped, your bank records seized, all without a warrant, and all without you knowing.

We have a Presidency that actually makes its own legislation via signing statements and a Congress that refuses to reign in the power of the Executive. The precedent set for future Presidents by the Bush/Cheney regime is a dangerous one paving the way for a tyrant to take over the United States that is even worse than Bush/Cheney. The United States has been set up to make the full move into fascism where the American People behave like docile cows and obey every command dictated to them.

The American People have been duped into thinking that spending their tax dollars to build freeways, bridges, public transportation, and investing in education and research is called ‘waste’. Simultaneously handing over hundreds of billions of dollars to private corporations to help maintain two simultaneous occupations in foreign lands is ‘good fiscal policy’.

We spend $3 billion a week to stay in Iraq and for what? Yet any time anyone talks about healthcare, education, and rebuilding our infrastructure they are shouted down as ‘tax and spend liberals’ and commies.

I will never get over it. All that was good and decent about America has been all but killed off by the Bush/Cheney regime, 6 years of Republican dominance, and spineless Democrats who don’t have the balls or the political will to do what is best for America.

It’s sick and sad to see politicians play politics with our future. America comes first not one’s re-election campaign. If you can’t do what is best for America then you shouldn’t be in politics.

Of course doing what is in the best interest of America and the American People is not what getting into politics is about anymore. Now it’s about securing lucrative government contracts for campaign donors. It’s about the revolving door from Congress to a lobbying firm or from the Pentagon to a Defense Corporation.

It’s sick, it’s sad, and it’s wrong. This country is so far off track with a large possibility that it will never recover. We are headed toward bankruptcy, insolvency, and a depression that will make the 1930’s look like good times. The American People suffer while politicians worry about speakerships, chairmanships, re-election, and campaign donors.

The price of gas is WRONG. The oil corporations are bringing America to its knees. Their activities are UN-AMERICAN. Speculators who drive up the price of oil every time Bush threatens to bomb Iran are UN-AMERICAN. These UN-AMERICAN activities are destroying the U.S. economy.

I will never get over it so long as those who are responsible for shattering America are not held accountable. I will never get over the destruction of America from the inside. I will never accept UN-AMERICAN fucks like Newt Gingrich who think we need to torture people. I will never accept UN-AMERICAN fucks like Limbaugh who wipe their ass with the Constitution and shill for UN-AMERICAN corporations.

This is a sad, but very good list of why I will never get over it either.

Excellent post.

Huzz-****ing-zah, PoliShifter!!! Well said!

I agree completely with what you are saying. After almost eight years of THE absolute worst government I have experienced in over half a century on this Earth -- the lies, the deceit, the unneccessary wars, the attacks on the U.S. Constitution and Democracy itself ... and now some folks want to say "Let's just ignore all of that?"

HELL NO!

To ignore it is to ACCEPT it -- to condone it -- to enable it, in the future. If we are to have ANY legitimacy as we *finally* wake up and try to regain our Honour & Principle, we MUST acknowledge and REBUKE that behaviour. Failing to do so is to allow it to stand -- to fail to condemn that which was so wrong on so many levels.

And that means we still don't really no better.

We must dissent. Better late than never. We must demand accountability from our elected officials or risk ceding the ability to do so, in the future.

Yes, such a step is big. It is HUGE! But anyone who is *really* a patriot ... anyone who really loves their country and what it stands for and isn't just giving lip-service ... MUST stand up for it and demand accountability to its fundamental principles!

"... we still don't really NO better ... ?!?"

Damn ... I pulled a Bush.

Homonyms hate freedom. ;-)

I hear, ya.'

I will never get over it either. Nor will I ever forget. These past 7 1/2 years have been like the dark ages: we've slipped behind the rest of the developed world in terms of quality of life, scientific research and development and the dollar is moving down in worth with each passing day and the debt saps its power. Even the Canadian dollar has parity with the greenback now.

Yet I still encounter people who say, "Hate is a powerful word and I can't bring myself to say "I hate George Bush." When I read some variation of this, all I can say is "What the fuck is wrong with you?" But people are still willing to cut Bush slack for what he and Cheney have done to the USA.

I can't believe you've forgotten how well forgetting and healing and moving on worked after Nixon and Reagan.

Well done. This should be required reading for Pelosi and all the other's who took impeachment off the table.
