By now you may have heard about Bruce Ivins, the Biodefense civilian Scientist who worked at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) laboratories at Fort Detrick, Md.. The Anthrax from the November 2001 letters was traced back to his lab.
As the story is going detectives were closing in on him as a major suspect and then he committed suicide. The buck stops with Ivins.
There are several things about this story that bug me. I am also extremely pissed off that NO ONE in the media is bothering to ask if Ivins is guilty, then why did he send the Anthrax to Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy?
Just a quick history lesson: After 9/11 Bush and the Republicans wanted to ram through “The Patriot Act” as a matter of “National Security”. This is one of the worst bills of all time. It violates the basic freedoms that I thought this country once held so dear. It may also very well be unconstitutional. Never mind the increase in power it gave to the Executive Branch.
Well, Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy were both holding up the bill and threatening to not allow it come to the Senate floor for a vote.
In November 2001 letters containing Anthrax were found addressed to them. The media and Republicans went into a frenzy claiming these Anthrax letters were proof that we “needed” “The Patriot Act” to keep America safe. Congress rolled over and the Freedom Hating Bill was passed.
It was never determined who sent the Anthrax letters. Of course the media, conservatives and Bush Republicans wanted to blame Al Qaeda. But it never made sense why Al Qaeda would target two senior ranking Senate Democrats.
Years go by and the case remains unsolved. Then researchers on the case get a break and tie the Anthrax back to Ivins. He then conveniently commits suicide thus stopping the investigation and closing the case.
Ok, here is what I think happened: Some persons in the bowels of our government from some nefarious agency approached Ivins about supplying some weapons grade Anthrax to them. Ivins was told it was a matter of National Security. These people took the Anthrax and sent some to Leahy and Daschle with the express purpose of strong arming the Patriot Act through Congress. This whole thing reeks of Dick Cheney by the way.
Well years go by and some government detectives, likely FBI, traced the trail back to Ivins. The people from the nefarious group, (remember Cheney said he likes to spend time in the shadows) approached Ivins and interrogated him. They wanted to know if he would take the fall for them. When Ivins learned they were going to pin the blame for the attacks on him he got pissed. These nefarious characters then felt they had no choice but to kill Ivins.
And yes I do think Cheney orchestrated the whole thing. Recently Seymour Hersh disclosed that Cheney had a plan to dress up Navy Seals like Iranians and have them attack U.S. installations and troops in order to justify attacking Iran. This is the type of Tom Clancy shit Cheney loves.
Remember the whole yellow cake uranium thing. Remember Curveball. Remember the slam dunk of WMD in Iraq, not wanting the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud, or that we had evidence that Saddam attacked us on 9/11. All of it was lies. All of it championed by Cheney.
Who wanted the Patriot Act the most? Cheney. How was it finally passed? By sending Anthrax to Daschle and Leahy. What did it do? Sent a veiled threat to both Senators that they could be gotten to if they didn’t fall in line.
Ivins was just a patsy. He was in many ways a person who just followed orders. He was probably told he was doing his duty for his country and how he would be remembered as a hero. He was probably sick to his stomach when he found out what they did with his Anthrax but he knew if he talked he was a dead man.
Again, the media fails us refusing to ask the basic question: Why did Ivins send Anthrax to Daschle and Leahy?
Glenn Greenwald (see link below) reports that ABC tried to falsely link these Anthrax attacks back to Iraq and Saddam in 2001.

Funny! So far in looking around you, Robert, and I wrote about this lie. You know it is all a lie like the rest of the total lie we are living today.
He might have committed suicide because they harangued him to death but I believe the Government did this and them investigating the saga means the truth will never be known once again and they will get away with this Nazi crap again. I am sick of this but just wait for the fall. It will continue to get worse and worse until???

Dick Cheney runs the administration and its crooked schemes, and Karl Rove runs the GOP and its campaigns. Nothing surprises me anymore. Both those guys need to be in jail.

and another thing: what about the poor innocents around the country who received anthrax in the mail? THEY had nothing to do with any of it and appear to have been chosen at random.
who had a motive for killing random citizens?
Cheney and Rove.
and it worked. when our freedoms began eroding back in 2002, people remained quiet as a result of these random killings.
the gov't said it was 'keeping us safe.'
it looks to me like [as is so often the case] the people who say they will keep us safe are the very people we need protection FROM.

More BS on the way. CNN reported that KBR is ordering all of its employees in Iraq to surrender their cell phones. Reminds me of the days of Pacific Architects and Engineers when they started disappearing so PA&E didn't have to pay them. Who is PA&E? They were the Viet Nam predecessor of KBR. One Anthrax terrorist (American (Christian?))now dead and probably thousands of KBR employees now facing their fate in the name of corporate profits. In Viet Nam they would call in air strikes on groups of PA&E employees. I wonder how they will dispose of them this time. Maybe they will be shipped to the Iran border and be reported as and advancing Iranian army so we can nuke them. Believe me though, something bad is in the air.

Suicide? Bullshit. How does one suicide on Tylenol 3, or any other drug, when confined in a mental institution? Suicided is more like it. Cheney ran the Anthrax operation from start to finish, and he probably ordered this poor schmuck killed, too.

Cheney is one sick bastard, and I would not doubt for a minute one of his surrogates was behind both acquiring the anthrax (perhaps from Ivins) and also mailing it to Daschle and Leahy.

The deeper you dig, the more it stinks.
Read this shocking piece from Salon, circa 2002. It suggests that the guilty party(parties) initially tried to frame an Egyptian former employee of the lab. The big shock? The FBI received a typed letter that identified Dr. Ayaad Assaad, a former biowarfare researcher at Ft. Detrick, as a potential bioweapons terrorist. The FBI letter arrived only DAYS BEFORE photo editor Robert Stevens was admitted to a Florida hospital with signs of respiratory distress that would soon be revealed to be Anthrax inhalation.
The FBI quickly determined that Dr. Assaad, an Egyptian American, could not have possibly been the person mailing the anthrax. So who the hell sent the FBI the letter identifying him as a potential terrorist only a week before the Anthrax attacks were to become clear?
The Salon article suggests certain candidates at Ft. Detrick- scientists and lab techs who actually worked in the same lab as the recently deceased Dr. Ivins- may be worthy of further scrutiny.
The salon article further establishes that certain Ft. Detrick scientists and lab techs had engaged in an ongoing campaign of racial harassment of Dr. Assaad- leading to their eventual reprimand and departure. (Strangely, however, certain individuals continued to visit the labs after hours- despite having been dismissed from the labs- and were even caught on tape entering the very facilities were the specimens of released Anthrax came from.)
These suspects had far more obvious motives. They also had the means and opportunity to send anthrax in the mail around the time of 9/11. Yet to date, it appears that the suspicious behaviors of certain biowarfare researchers have not been investigated since the attacks- as the FBI instead has focused on individuals like Steven Hatfill and Bruce Ivins who seem far less likely to been involved.
